On Being a Mama

I have been meaning to share some feelings I have been experiencing lately on what it means to be Eleanor Kate's mama. Honestly? It is the best job I have ever had. The hardest job while also being the easiest. The most important and the most inspiring. The most exhausting. And, the most exhilarating. This tiny individual fills my heart with joy, pride, hope and a love so big that I forget about apathy and ignorance. And the best part? Her laying her head on my chest, waking up talking, watching her with her Daddy, and laughing. This child is special. I hope every mama feels this way, but I know that this child, my child is important--not only to me, but to the world. I swear I am serious when I say that, I know she is destined for greatness. Beautiful, smart, adventurous, inquisitive, sweet and precious. Everyday she makes me laugh and I am so lucky that she is in my life. And so, as I prepare to share her updates, know that I am--while also a wife, daughter, friend, doctor, researcher, writer, sister, and avid Lost fan, I am so much more--because I am this child's mama.

Here is Nora dressed up in a sweet dress I couldn't resist:
And playing with her Daddy at Grandpa's wedding last weekend:
And all pretty in pink going to Calvin's (her Goddard School classmate) first birthday party:
And here with Mama on Valentine's Day in an outfit Miss Kathy bought her:
And in EKG news, she is getting her first tooth! Lower right front, it is just starting to peek through. Almost 8 months old and we are ready! Real people food now includes carrots, pears, peaches, cereal, and Wendy's chocolate frosty. Yep, that last one was my bad. It just gets so tempting to let her try what I am eating when with every bite, her little mouth opens and head swivels in the direction of the spoon. So, upon eating a frosty the other day, I gave her a bite. Then, it was ON! She would not let me have a bite without her. Well, the sugar or chocolate kept her up late enough that I learned my lesson. No more frosties for a while. But, we had fun watching her eat it! Nora has also started reaching for us, which is fun--talk about making you feel like the most important person in the world. Speaking of that, seems like we are not sleeping through the night anymore. Until next time, the Mama.

And we're back . . .

Sorry it has been so long since we posted. Life and Eleanor are keeping us busy. Since the last post Nora had her 6th month doctor's appointment. She is doing great and is in the 95th percentile for weight (20 pounds), length (28 inches) and head circumference. With the cold weather she has gotten a chance to try out some fun winter hats. Dear relatives in Oregon supplied both hats.
She still loves her puppy, Mookie. Whenever she gets tired of us we can depend on him to get a smile on her face. Here she is sitting on Wendy's lap while laughing at Mookie who is on my lap.

Baths have become much more fun as she likes to splash and has found her feet and likes to grab those while we try and wash her. Eleanor also loves her duckie in the bath. Insert embarrassing naked baby photo here.
